Tottenham is set to earn a transfer windfall without directly selling a player, thanks to Marcus Edwards.
Spurs had an interesting final few hours of the last transfer window after offloading Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele and adding Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski to Antonio Conte’s squad.
Alli and Ndombele didn’t make the club any immediate money, considering one left on loan and the other on an initial free transfer.
However, Marcus Edwards also changed clubs in Portugal, and that will have a positive effect on the Spurs bank account.
He left Tottenham for Vitoria de Guimaraes in 2019, and his fine performances for them has earned him a move to Sporting Lisbon.
The Sun says Tottenham negotiated a 50% sell-on clause in the deal that took him away from London initially and that has positioned them to earn a windfall now.
This is really good news considering the club is still recovering from the Covid pandemic and the effect that has had on the finances.
In this second half of the season, Antonio Conte will uncover more positions that need to be strengthened and that will see the club return to the transfer market.
Edwards apparently cost Sporting €7.67m plus bonuses of €500,000 if certain objectives are met. That would transpire to roughly €4.00m
Hopefully, more of the under-performing players at the club will be offloaded when the transfer window reopens to raise even more cash for further acquisitions.
