Tottenham player ratings v Southampton would probably be best left until the cold light of day when emotions are not running so high. However, on this occasion, they deserve to be rated when one is in a rage.
Southampton was by far the better team over 90 minutes and anyone questioning that just needs to look at the shots from both teams, 23-8 in favour of the Saints.
Here are the Tottenham player ratings
Hugo Lloris – 6
Lloris was one of Tottenham’s better players on the night and that alone tells you how poor the team was overall.
Emerson Royal – 4
Run ragged in the first half and continues to prove his critics right. A night to forget for him.
Davinson Sanchez – 4
He tried and we know Conte likes him but he continues to look out of his depth at this level.
Cristian Romero – 6
The best of the defenders and you can see that he is class but he basically got dragged down to the level of the other defenders.
Ben Davies – 4
An unfortunate slip led to Southampton’s opener but no excuses for the rest of his performance and no real surprise that he had another poor game.
Sergio Reguilon – 5
Was his usual busy self and should have scored in the first half, not sure he fully understands what Conte wants from him.
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg – 5
Deserved to be hooked, offered almost nothing when he was on the pitch and this is happening too often, though he was instrumental in Spurs opener and that is the only reason he gets a 5.
Harry Winks – 4
One word needed to describe Winks tonight – Anonymous.
Lucas Moura – 4
Very little was offered from the Brazilian, his inconsistency was on full display this evening.
Son Heung-min – 5
He tried but lack of service undermined his impact on the game
Harry Kane – 5
Has he become a right-winger now? Conte has to deploy him far better.
Subs
Dejan Kulusevski – 5
Was always going to be difficult for the Swede to come into this game the way the team was playing
Rodrigo Bentancur – 5
There was a slight upturn in tempo when he came on but it just was not enough.
Steven Bergwijn – 5
Scored but unfortunately, the goal was disallowed and he at least brought some urgency.
Manager
Antonio Conte – 5
Not his best game and he has to take some responsibility, the team was not set up right and his halftime talk made zero difference.
