Tottenham is currently undergoing a squad revamp following a disappointing season. As part of this overhaul, several players are deemed surplus to requirements at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including Giovani Lo Celso.
Lo Celso, an attacking midfielder, has not featured for Tottenham since the winter of 2022 and has spent the last 18 months on loan at Villarreal. With his contract running until the summer of 2025, his future at the club hangs in the balance.
According to journalist Rudy Galetti, it seems Lo Celso is not part of Tottenham’s plans and could potentially depart this summer. Galetti suggests that the Argentine player is keen on returning to La Liga after his positive experience at Villarreal.
It has been reported that two Spanish top-flight clubs have shown interest in acquiring Lo Celso’s services, with Barcelona being one of them. AS, via Sport Witness, has indicated that Barcelona head coach Xavi views Giovani Lo Celso as the “icing on the cake,” suggesting that the Catalan club sees him as a valuable addition to their squad.
As the transfer window unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Lo Celso will indeed make a move to Barcelona or another La Liga club. However, with his lack of involvement at Tottenham and his desire for a return to Spain, a potential departure from the North London club seems likely for the Argentine midfielder.
