Roma manager José Mourinho expressed his lack of strong sentiment towards Tottenham, labelling it as the “only club” in his career that he doesn’t have a profound connection with.
Speaking at a press conference organized by UEFA at Trigoria ahead of the Europa League Final against Sevilla, Mourinho addressed his relationship with his current team.
While discussing his bond with previous clubs, Mourinho stated as quoted by Football Italia,
“I hope my words are not misunderstood, but the only club in my career that I don’t still hold a strong feeling for is Tottenham. In all other clubs, there has always been a solid bond because people are not foolish.
Mourinho then added, “Probably because the stadium was empty at the time of Covid and because President Levy didn’t give too much.”
It is evident that Mourinho’s bitter experience of being dismissed just one week before the Carabao Cup final has likely contributed to his negative perception of his time at Tottenham.
Without acknowledging the style of football played under his leadership and the disappointing results leading up to his departure, Mourinho took the opportunity to voice his perspective in the ongoing criticism of Spurs.
