The possibility of Julian Nagelsmann becoming Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager has taken a severe hit, following reports of his reservations about the role.
The German coach was recently sacked by Bayern Munich, just as Tottenham have been searching for a successor to the departed Antonio Conte, who has been replaced on an interim basis by Cristian Stellini.
Mauricio Pochettino and Nagelsmann are among the top candidates for the job, but according to Football Insider, Tottenham had placed Nagelsmann ahead of Pochettino on their wish list.
However, it seems Nagelsmann is “not privately convinced” that Tottenham is the right move for him, and he is concerned that joining the club may “damage his career.”
This is despite Tottenham’s interest in him and their efforts to secure his services. Nagelsmann is a winner, having won three trophies with Bayern Munich, and he wishes to continue competing for major honours. Unfortunately, Tottenham’s track record doesn’t indicate that they will be able to provide him with immediate success. As a result, Nagelsmann may choose to wait and seek opportunities elsewhere, confident that he will be in demand.
According to the same report from Football Insider, the appointment of Nagelsmann as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur could help keep Harry Kane at the club. However, the same cannot be said for other potential alternatives that Tottenham may be considering.
