Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is desperate for Champions League football because of the money it brings in but for the fans it would bring nothing but humiliation based on the performance against Everton this evening.
Despite playing against ten men for most of the second half and a goal up after the 68th minute, Spurs were the clear second-best team against a relegation-battling team. It was a gutless cowardly display from the same bunch of players that put in the same dreadful performances week in and week out.
This is not a new thing, it has gone on now for at least four seasons and it has made no difference who the manager is or what players are brought in and nothing will change while the core group of players remain at the club.
They cannot play under pressure, they play with fear, without vision or creativity and the idea of Champions League football next season should fill us with dread.
Can you imagine what one of the continent’s top clubs would do to this bunch, it is no exaggeration to say what a Bayern Munich could get into double figures over two legs.
This all comes from the top make no mistake about that. Putting Cristian Stellini in charge was always a fool’s errand, the man is no different to his mentor Antonio Conte, why would anyone expect any difference?
The decision from the top directly affects the players on the pitch, it creates the mentality in the team that is so weak, for example Son knows he will not be dropped, he has even admitted he has been poor this season, Lucas Moura, who is being let go plays ahead of Arnaut Danjuma, someone please explain that.
It is very clear that a new manager is required, someone with a bit of nous not scared to make the hard choices, not afraid to drop players that are not performing well enough but will the board or levy specifically act fast? No chance.
I am fully aware what Champions League football brings, better players, money, and probably a better quality manager but what good did it do us this season? I mean, seriously, what is the point, what is the upside?
I could go on but it will just be a rant and no one wants that so I will conclude, no Champions League football please, we will only be humiliated and we have had enough of that,
