According to former Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, Harry Kane should give serious consideration to a potential move to Manchester United during this summer transfer window.
Shearer believes that, given the circumstances, Tottenham fans would understand and not hold it against Kane if he decided to seek new challenges elsewhere. As Kane finds himself at a pivotal point in his career, Shearer suggests that exploring alternative options may be in his best interest.
In an interview with Match of the Day, Shearer stated as quoted in the Metro, “If it was me, personally, in his situation now – yeah, I would look at my options. He has been so loyal to Tottenham and so brilliant for Tottenham. I don’t think any Tottenham fan could complain if he said: ‘Look, I’ve done my time and I have got to look elsewhere.'”
Kane’s season with Tottenham has been a mix of highs and lows, as exemplified by his superb free-kick goal against Brentford, which marked his 28th goal of the campaign. However, the subsequent 3-1 defeat against Brentford has left Spurs in 8th place, facing the possibility of not qualifying for either the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.
Manchester United has made it clear that Kane is their top priority, indicating their strong desire to secure his services. Additionally, Kane will have just one year remaining on his contract after the season concludes, and there have been no indications of his intention to sign an extension.
While Kane is determined to surpass Shearer’s Premier League scoring record, his desire to accomplish this feat while remaining in England remains a priority. Although Tottenham is eager to retain their star player, they would demand a significant transfer fee, likely exceeding £100 million, if they reluctantly agreed to his departure.
